My name is Eileen Denomme, and I am a Certified Professional Midwife. I am the mother of four grown children, and two granddaughters, all born at home in Michigan with a midwife in attendance.
I have been a natural childbirth activist since 1982, after my first home birth. That birth was life-changing for me, it opened my eyes to differences between normal births at home and typical births in the hospitals. In 1990, after my 4th home birth, I was given an opportunity to work at a local birthing center. Shortly afterwards, I was asked to attend births as a photographer, doula or general helper. The childbirth activist in me grew stronger and soon I was assisting the midwife and learning the profession.
I strongly believe women have the right to choose where and how to birth their babies and that every woman deserves compassionate, respectful care tailored to their needs during pregnancy and childbirth. Every baby deserves gentle and respectful care.
About my experience and training:
In 1990, there were no local MEAC-accredited midwifery schools, or any institution teaching the skills needed be be a midwife. Since I did not want to be a nurse, the only option for me was an apprenticeship. I was blessed to learn from several experienced midwives in the area, while I attended over 100 out-of-hospital births. In 1993, I started my own business: Woven In Love Midwifery Services, which I changed in 2001 to Woven In Love Maternity Services when I began working in the hospital as a doula.
Over the last 26 years I worked to complete college course work in nutrition, psychology, early childhood development, biology and human anatomy & physiology as well as attending over 180+ workshops/seminars/conferences on all aspects of midwifery or maternity care. I chose to be a Certified Midwife with Michigan Midwives Association (MMA) in 1995 and then a Certified Professional Midwife in September of 2012. I received my 'Bridge Certificate' in 2016, which means I have completed the continuing education required by the US Department of Education (USDE) and the US MERA professional organizations. A copy of my resume will be given at your consult.
Over the years, I have been very blessed to have helped family members, friends and (746) women give birth naturally, 100 of those births as
a Professional Labor Support Doula in the hospital setting.
I firmly believe women can bring forth their young spontaneously and instinctively and I prefer this type of birth: the midwife as gatekeeper only. I have been trained to recognize 'abnormal' patterns in fetal heart rate or 'abnormal' patterns during your labor. My job is to work at restoring labor back to normal, if possible, and then continue on as a gatekeeper. I will provide a safe environment for your land birth, water birth or a VBAC at home or in the hospital. I provide help with newborn care, and provide breastfeeding support. At your consult, I will give you a copy of my statistics.
I am father-friendly and encourage a high level of involvement during labor and birth. I provide individual or group childbirth education for my home birth or doula clients.
I believe in continuing education as well as documentation of acquired skills for all practicing midwives. I strongly believe that ALL midwives should be tested on their knowledge and have written standards of care they follow. I also believe ALL midwives should attend mandatory peer reviews.
I believe families who choose midwifery care deserve experienced, accountable midwives. This is why I became a Preceptor for those seeking their Certified Professional Midwife certification. I also attend workshops and conference to keep up with current changes in childbirth because I strive to use evidence-based care.
I will help you with your hospital or home birth plans within Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, Lapeer, Sanilac, St. Clair and Genesee counties in Michigan. Offices in Sterling Heights, Lapeer & Utica. Home visits are available as well.

Philosophy & Values
What can you expect from me as your birth attendant?
I value the oneness of the pregnant mother and her unborn
child, they are inseparable and an inter-dependent whole. I value the birth experience as a rite of passage and the right of each baby to be born in a caring and loving manner, without separation from mother and family. I value the mystery of birth as a natural process that technology will never replace. I value pregnancy and birth as a personal and social event with a lifelong impact on a woman's self esteem, her health and her ability to nurture her offspring. I value the breastfeeding relationship as the best way to nourish and nurture the newborn. |
