Homebirth Services Include:The Initial Consultation: This visit helps you decide what type of birth is right for you. You will meet the midwife, learn of her experience and qualifications plus receive a full disclosure booklet with statistics on home birth safety in her practice, references from past clientele, instructions for creating a back up plan and equipment and supplies needed for a home birth.
Prenatal Education and Counseling: The frequency of visits will depend on the stage of your pregnancy. I monitor fetal well-being such as heart rate, growth and position. Your well being is monitored by your vitals and urinalysis and lab work. Also evaluated is the nutritional, psychological and emotional aspects of your health. If you want to have physician back up and regular OB/GYN visits in addition to my care, this will provide you with a comprehensive prenatal care program. If you do not have a physician, I can help you find a mother-friendly doctor who will help. Home Visit: At about four weeks prior to your due date, a home visit will be made. The purpose of this visit is to meet all persons involved, answer whatever questions they may have, make sure that all preparations have been made for the birth and that the Midwife and her assistants are familiar with the route to your home. Labor and Birth and the Immediate Postpartum Period: I will provide support throughout your labor and birth and will remain in your home until everyone is settled and the room is tidy; a minimum of three hours following birth. Before I leave the home, I will be sure you are comfortable, fed and confident with the newborn care and breastfeeding. You will be called within 12 hours after delivery as part of my comprehensive follow-up care. This is another opportunity to share your concerns regarding infant care and feeding. Postpartum Visits: On the first and third day, I will come back to your home to check on you and your baby. I will also do a Newborn Screening Test and file a Birth Certificate with the county clerk. More visits are available at two and four weeks postpartum, if needed. At six weeks postpartum, a visit will be scheduled to check on your needs and your baby's growth. Fertility awareness is discussed at this time. An itemized statement is provided for re-imbursement from your insurance company. |
